There are only a few more weeks left until the big day is here, WrestleMania, and recently the hashtag #GiveDivasAChance has been getting a lot of buzz

Fans are not the only ones speaking out, but there have also been murmurs amongst some of the Superstars and Divas (including ones from rival companies). Obviously the Divas division has not been the same since pioneers like Trish Stratus, Lita, Victoria, and Mickie James battled it out within the squared circle, but the Divas nowadays get less than 3 minutes of air time and sometimes none at all to showcase their talents. Hopefully things will soon change and the division will get better as their is some real quality within the current locker room. With that being said here is the look at the Top 5 Greatest Divas matches in Mania history.

#5. Wendi Richter vs. Leilani Kai – Wrestlemania 1

March 31, 1985 was the date for the first WrestleMania ever. It was here where the WWE started having celebrities involved in storylines with the Superstars and Divas. Cyndi Lauper, who was a 80’s pop icon, was the manager for Wendi. The Fabulous Moolah was in Leilani’s corner. The match started off very aggressively with Richter getting the upper hand. At one point outside of the ring, Moolah grabbed Lauper by the hair and started choking her as a distraction. Richter then hit Kai with a “Fireman’s Carry Slam”; Kai went for a cross body off the top rope but Richter rolled out the way and countered with a submission for the pin to become the new Women’s Champion.

#4. Jazz vs. Trish Stratus vs. Lita – WrestleMania 18

Trish and Lita were fan favorites at the time, they were great together as friends and as enemies. They gave women’s wrestling fans reasons to get excited about the future. This would be Lita’s only WrestleMania match ever. At the start of the match, Lita and Trish would battle it out fiercely until Jazz would step in. At one point Trish knocked out Lita leaving her vulnerable on the top rope. Jazz wrapped up the match by hitting Lita with an epic “Fisherman’s Suplex off the top rope to retain her Women’s Champion.

#3. Molly Holly vs. Victoria – WrestleMania 20

The standout moment of this match would have been the stipulation, which was if Molly Holly lost she would have to get her head shaved. The match was pretty good; both women were putting up a fight. Even though Molly was dominating at the end Victoria was the one who won the match. When Molly Holly realized she had lost the match, she was trying to run away but found herself in that barber’s chair. Over the next few weeks Molly would walk around sporting a wig. Also a little fun fact about this Mania, AJ Lee, who years later would go on to become a WWE diva, was in the crowd with her dad.

#3. Jazz v. Victoria v. Trish Stratus – WrestleMania 19

At this time the Divas were at their best. In the beginning, Jazz and Victoria teamed up to take out Trish. Jazz out muscled and over wrestled her opponents but that was not enough. During the match Stratus did an awesome Hurricanrana that the crowd loved. Victoria would hit a wicked super kick then go for a Moonsault, but missed. Trish reversed the “Widow’s Peak” of Victoria hitting the “Chic Kick” to pick up the win and become the 4-time Women’s Champion, and becoming arguably the greatest Diva of all time. This was a very well paced match with the Divas wrestling for over 7 minutes.

#1. Trish Stratus v. Mickie James – WrestleMania 22

This match would become one of the greatest Divas matches in WrestleMania history. There was a great story to tell building up to this match. Mickie was the obsessed fan that was crazy over her idol, Trish Stratus. AJ Lee might be known as the crazy one, but Mickie was the queen of crazy. You would think the crowd would be on Trish’s side during the match, but no, they were cheering for Mickie and booing Trish. Highlight of the match; Trish goes for head scissors off the top rope, Mickie counters by dropping her injured knee over the top rope for the crowd to go wild. Trish went for Stratusfaction but Mickie countered by grabbing Stratus’ lady parts as “Let’s Go Mickie” chants started. The match ended with Mickie hitting Trish with a “Chick Kick” to pick up the win and become the new Women’s Champion.
