Spread The Word

Think Ahead Tuesdays is all about those forthcoming tracks, albums and movies that keep the spirit of hip hop alive.

The Higher Power is a hot a new release from Massachusetts rapper, Kyle Bent. It’s smooth and bass heavy, with a Kendrick like bounce that keeps your head bopping from start to finish.

Bent, 18, is the latest in a line of talented young rappers on the come up. Originally from Jamaica,  he got into hip hop off the back of his admiration for artists like Ludacris, Lil Wayne and Andre 3000. By 5th grade he started his first rap duo with close friend, Andrew Gourgue. Shortly thereafter he taught himself how to use audio recording software like Audacity,  Adobe Audition and Protools.

2010 saw Bent get introduced to his current music engineer, Tarik McFarland. Tarik recognised in Bent a raw talent for music and decided to take him under his wing. After working with Tarik for a year, Bent caught the attention of a man named Tom Murray, who was determined to make him the next big thing.

In  quick succession, three of Bent’s music videos hit the front pages of Worldstar Hip Hop. Now in the public eye, Bent’s stature continued to grow. By age 15, he’d already dropped three mixtapes and six music videos, all of which recieved great hit rates despite limited resources. To date, Bent has performed at countless venues both in and out of his local neighbourhood. Better still, he’s played alongside big names like, Ras Kass, Gavlyn and Pawz One.
