Ludacris Drops Bows On Em’ In a One-Off Show at London’s Eventim Apollo

Spread The Word

“You just came home from watching a gig, tell me whatcha gon’ do? Write a review!” And write one I shall, for Luda’s performance at the Eventim Apollo last Saturday was simply incredible.

Now I know what you’re thinking? What’s an artist like Ludacris doing still touring? Since 2015’s Ludaversal, he’s remained relatively quiet as far as music goes, instead focusing his efforts on acting. Or at least that’s what we thought. Just recently he announced the release of a new single, Vitamin D – with a new album to follow – in what may very well prove to be a comeback. What better excuse to hit the road?

Any doubts in my mind that he might be passed it were quickly tossed aside as he came out on stage. Back in my teen years, Luda’ could do no wrong, and within minutes it was evident that he’s still got it. Opening with Act The Fool, his set got off to an electric start. This catchy tune famously featured on the 2 Fast 2 Furious soundtrack – a film which Ludacris also starred in, playing the role of Tej.

Southern Hospitality came next. Earlier in the night I’d remarked that this was the song I’d wanted to hear most, and boy was it good live. Area Codes followed in quick succession, with the late Nate Dogg’s familiar voice sounding out the chorus: “I got hoes”. Yeah! also made an appearance early-on. This was huge back in 2004,  thanks partly to a  killer verse from Luda’.

By the arrival of Stand Up, the crowd were well and truly going crazy. I used to listen to this on repeat, and to hear everybody singing along to it was spine-tingling. Blueberry Yum Yum has reputation for being a stoner anthem (for obvious reasons), so I wasn’t too surprised to see people sticking their lighters in the air. If there’s one song to get high to, it’s this.

Finishing with a bang, Luda’ dropped Get Back, followed immediately after by Move Bitch. Even to this day these remain two of the best hip hop songs to get pumped up to. Just the lyrics alone make you want to punch air and not take shit from anyone.

All in all, a pitch-perfect night from a true legend in the game. Follow his movements on Twitter and Instagram now.
